US Rates Outlook, Mark Cabana, Bank of America

Update on US macro trends, impacts to Fed monetary policy, & implications for US rates. The presentation will also include an update on USD funding markets & UST supply / demand dynamics.

Mark Cabana is the head of US Rates Strategy at BofA Global Research, based in New York; his team publishes research and trade recommendations on US interest rates and macro strategy, combining for a shared view on Treasury duration and curve while having specialists covering the Fed and front end, supply and demand, TIPS, derivatives and volatility, and agencies; Mark joined BofA in 2015, and his team was recently ranked very highly in the most recent Institutional Investor survey across a range of categories including: #1 in US rates strategy, #1 in short duration strategy, #1 in interest rate derivatives, #1 in agency debt strategy, and #1 in Treasury inflation protected securities, having held the #1 spot in most of these categories for the past several years.

Mark focuses on leading his team, developing macro views (including duration and curve), and specializing in the US front end and Fed plumbing, which involves the intersection of the Fed balance sheet, commercial banking system, regulations, and financial markets; in his role, Mark directs and conducts analysis, writes research, and meets with a wide range of institutional clients both domestically and abroad.

Before joining BofA Securities, Mark worked as an officer in the Markets Group at the Federal Reserve Bank of New York, spending nearly 9 years on the Open Markets Trading Desk during the financial crisis, where he was closely involved with the design and implementation of a number of asset purchase and QE programs and managed a team focused on analyzing global macroeconomic conditions and financial markets.

Cabana earned a bachelor’s degree from Furman University and a master’s degree from Johns Hopkins University in finance and international relations, and he is a CFA charterholder.
