The Charlotte Metropolitan Area is a place to live and a place to work. In this presentation, we present our economic and demographic forecast for Charlotte over the next ten years. People who live in the region provide the labor force for the economy. The long-term demographics of Charlotte can be projected based on the current population structure, but also depend on the ability of the region to attract and retain new and current residents. As a place to work, we evaluate the employment growth prospects for key industries such as finance, trade, and manufacturing.
Our projections provide a baseline for the region, yet can be modified based on expert local knowledge or the policy decisions of local governments. For example, the availability of workforce housing is a constraint on the growth of the region. We demonstrate in economic modeling simulation, how policies that reduce the cost of housing may increase population, labor force, and economic growth for the Charlotte MSA.
